How do you use AI to improve your application without letting it invent your achievements? These ChatGPT prompts for resume and cover-letter writing give you 40 original, copy-and-paste starting points for bullets, summaries, vacancy tailoring, keyword checks, letters and interview practice. Every prompt includes fill-in fields and instructions to use your supplied facts, ask about missing evidence and flag claims for review.
The ordinary text workflow works with free ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini accounts, subject to their current limits and availability. Choose one task, add anonymised source facts and review the answer. No paid browsing, uploads, connectors or API access are required.
Why You'll Love It
- One task at a time: choose a specific prompt instead of asking an assistant to invent a complete career story from a job title.
- Fact rules travel with every prompt: you can copy a single numbered prompt without needing a separate setup message.
- Missing evidence becomes a question: the instructions ask the assistant to pause, ask or mark a gap for your input.
- Works without invented metrics: dedicated prompts help explain real actions, context and purpose when no measured result is available.
- Your voice stays part of the process: wording prompts use your own writing samples and preserve the factual meaning.
- Three copy-friendly formats: searchable PDF, editable Word DOCX and plain TXT contain the same forty prompts.
What's Included
- 40 original prompts in six groups, each with a specific task, repeated honesty rules and fill-in fields.
- 22-page Prompt Library (PDF and DOCX) plus a complete plain-text copy (TXT).
- 8-page Access Guide (PDF): file access, privacy preparation, free text-chat use, fields and fact rules, prompt selection, examples and final checks.
- Three fictional before-and-after examples in the guide: a resume bullet, a fresher summary and a cover-letter sentence.
- Bonus 1-page Fact Check Checklist (PDF) and Start Here instructions. One customer ZIP contains six files.
Pick Your Prompt Group
- 8 resume-bullet prompts: turn notes into clear bullets, handle supplied metrics, describe projects, separate team contributions and shorten wording.
- 5 summary prompts: experienced, fresher, career change, returner and leadership situations.
- 8 tailoring prompts: map vacancy requirements to evidence, choose sections, select bullets, review skills, ask questions and compare versions.
- 6 keyword and reading checks: extract vacancy terms, compare evidence, edit supported wording, check terminology and review copied text.
- 7 cover-letter prompts: tailored, no paid experience, career change, returner, email note, voice editing and fact review.
- 6 interview prompts: practise role-based questions, supported STAR answers, follow-ups, real difficulties, questions for the employer and application consistency.
Who Is This For?
- Students and freshers using genuine study, projects, placements or volunteering.
- Career changers connecting earlier work to a new field.
- Experienced applicants who want clearer bullets and more focused summaries.
- Applicants returning after a break.
- Job seekers preparing tailored letters and consistent interview answers for applications in India, the US or UK.
Honesty Rules: Never Invent Facts
Every prompt tells the assistant to use only supplied facts, keep activities correctly labelled and avoid inventing employers, titles, dates, qualifications, tools, achievements or numbers. Missing evidence should become a question or a [NEEDS MY INPUT] marker. Those instructions are useful guardrails, but they cannot guarantee what a model will produce. You still need to verify every claim.
Before-and-After Examples
A fictional source note says the applicant checked an order spreadsheet weekly and flagged missing delivery dates, with no measured improvement rate. An unsupported draft claims a 40% improvement. The guide’s revision keeps the action: “Checked the weekly order spreadsheet and flagged missing delivery dates for the supervisor to follow up.” The invented percentage and advanced-analytics claim are removed.
The other examples show how to state a fresher’s coursework honestly and connect earlier coordination work to a cover-letter requirement. These are original fictional illustrations prepared for the guide, not claimed results from testing particular AI models.
Works with Free ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini
The prompts use ordinary text and do not depend on a particular model, uploads, browsing or paid features. Current free accounts can use this workflow within the service’s limits and availability. If a limit appears, follow the notice or continue later. Plans, account access and outputs can change; the guide links to official service help.
How It Works
- Download and extract the customer ZIP.
- Choose one numbered prompt from PDF, Word or TXT.
- Fill and paste: replace its fields with anonymised facts, then paste the whole prompt into your chosen AI text chat.
- Verify and apply: answer evidence questions, check every claim and copy only approved wording into your own application document.
Keyword Checks, Explained Honestly
The keyword group compares the vacancy, resume and facts you supply. It distinguishes a wording gap from an unsupported skill. It does not access an employer’s applicant tracking system, validate a hidden ranking or provide an ATS score. Use supported terms naturally and check the reading order of your finished document.
Digital Use & Software
- Digital download only; nothing is shipped.
- PDF, DOCX and TXT files. The prompt library is supplied in all three formats.
- Open the DOCX in Word or upload it to your own Google Drive for Google Docs. Hosted make-a-copy links are not included in this edition.

Questions, Answered
Can I use ChatGPT to write my resume?
You can use an AI assistant to help draft and edit wording from facts you provide. Treat its answer as a draft, compare every claim with your own records and follow the employer’s instructions. The prompts ask for missing evidence and prohibit invented employers, dates, titles, qualifications, tools, achievements and numbers.
What is the best ChatGPT prompt for a resume?
Choose a prompt for the specific task and supply relevant verified facts. Prompt 14 maps evidence to a vacancy, prompt 01 drafts clear bullets and prompt 23 compares keywords with evidence. There is no single prompt that is best for every applicant. Every prompt in this pack includes fields and its own fact rules.
How do I make AI resume bullets sound like me?
Provide short examples of your own writing, use ordinary words and read the draft aloud. Prompt 07 edits bullets using two writing samples while preserving the facts. Remove inflated adjectives and any claim you could not explain in an interview. Sounding natural comes from specific evidence and your own editing, not a detection promise.
Will employers know if my resume was written by AI?
This pack makes no claim about whether an employer will identify AI assistance or use a detection tool. It does not promise detection avoidance. Use your own evidence, edit the wording into your voice and follow application instructions. You should be able to explain every claim clearly and consistently in an interview.
How do I tailor my resume to a job description with AI?
Supply the vacancy and relevant verified background. Use prompt 14 to map requirements to evidence, 16 to select relevant bullets and 23 to compare terms with supported facts. Review the final version with prompt 27. Keep genuine experience gaps separate from wording gaps; do not add a requested skill you do not have.
Can it find missing ATS keywords?
The keyword prompts compare the text you provide and distinguish terms that are clear, supported but not expressed, or unsupported. They do not access an employer’s ATS or provide a validated ATS score. Use relevant wording naturally only when your evidence supports it, then check the finished document and any application preview.
Can I use the prompts without paid AI tools?
The ordinary text workflow can run in free ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini accounts, subject to current limits and availability. The prompts do not require uploads, browsing, connectors, API access or a paid model. If a service limit appears, follow its notice. Access and plan features can change, and outputs will vary.
Can I write a cover letter with no paid experience?
Yes. Prompt 29 helps use genuine study, projects, placements or volunteering, keeping each activity correctly labelled. Supply your own contribution and a specific reason for applying. The pack also includes career-change, returner, short email-note and letter-review prompts. Never present coursework as employment or copy a fictional achievement into your application.
What if I do not have numbers for my achievements?
Say that no measured result is available. Prompt 04 asks for useful action, context and purpose without invented quantities or percentages. Prompt 02 asks questions that may uncover real scope or evidence. A clear account of your actual contribution is preferable to a made-up improvement figure, even if an AI suggests one.
Should I paste my full resume into an AI chat?
Prepare an anonymised working copy and share only the relevant permitted facts. Remove contact details, home address, identity numbers and confidential employer, client, patient or student information. Use neutral labels and restore accurate personal details in your own application file later. Review the service’s current data and privacy settings before sharing information.
What files do I receive?
The ZIP contains the 22-page Prompt Library in PDF and editable DOCX, the full TXT copy, an eight-page Access Guide, a one-page Fact Check Checklist and Start Here instructions. The same forty prompts appear in all three library formats. The guide’s three original before-and-after examples are fictional illustrations, not claimed model test results.
Does it work in Word and Google Docs?
Yes. Open the DOCX in Word or upload it to your own Google Drive and open with Google Docs, then save your copy. PDF and TXT copies are also supplied. Hosted Google Docs make-a-copy links are not included in this edition. You only need to paste one complete numbered prompt into your chosen AI chat.
Does the pack include a Canva or resume template?
This product is a prompt library and writing guide. It does not include or require Canva, and it does not supply a resume or cover-letter layout. Copy wording you have checked into your own application document. The related ATS Resume Template Pack offers editable layouts if you also need a separate document structure.
Will this guarantee an interview or job?
No. The prompts help you draft and review wording, but your evidence, the vacancy and the employer’s process still matter. They cannot verify private records or guarantee an ATS score, detection outcome, interview or job. The pack is independent of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft. Personal use only; nothing is shipped.
Need an editable document layout too? Pair your checked wording with the ATS Resume Template Pack.
