Define one buyer situation before expanding your offer

The Digital Product Customer Persona & Offer Canvas is a digital product customer persona template for creators whose audience description is too broad. Use the 16-page workbook to connect a buyer task and context to a possible purchase trigger, an objection and a useful offer.

This ideal customer worksheet for digital products focuses on the task someone is trying to complete. It gives you space to record evidence, label assumptions and explain what the proposed product should help them produce. Bring the work together in the buyer persona offer canvas on page 12.

What you receive: 8 files in one ZIP

  • 16-page editable DOCX workbook covering context, triggers, current alternatives, constraints, useful outcomes, proof, objections, offer scope, positioning, examples and a next test.
  • Two matching 16-page PDF workbooks: A4 and US Letter, with selectable text and writing space.
  • 4-page worked example: a completed illustrative plan for positioning a future budget-sheet concept for freelancers with variable income.
  • 4-page quick start: file map, tool requirements, six setup steps, first task and troubleshooting.
  • Licence, support/version notes and a CSV file manifest.

Formats: 4 PDF, 1 DOCX, 2 TXT and 1 CSV. The offer canvas contains eight fields: Buyer situation, Purchase trigger, Current alternative, Constraint, Useful outcome, Proof, Objection, and Offer and next test.

See a completed freelancer planning example

The worked example proposes a manual budget-sheet concept that could organise user-entered expected and received payments. It demonstrates a buyer situation, possible trigger, current alternative, constraint, intended output and objection, followed by a filled offer canvas, claim review and next test.

Buyer descriptions are explicitly Assumed or Unknown, with evidence pending. No actual buyer research, participant quotations, financial amounts or income promises are supplied. The example is a positioning exercise; the future budget spreadsheet itself is not included.

How can I define one buyer situation, purchase trigger, objection and useful offer?

Choose one task and the situation in which someone attempts it. Record the event that may make it relevant, the route they already use and the constraints affecting access or effort. Describe a visible output your proposed product could support. Ask what may stop them from using or buying it. Link each buyer claim to an actual permitted source, or keep it labelled as an assumption. Use the canvas to narrow the proposed contents and choose one uncertainty to test.

What should I look for in a digital product customer persona template?

Look for a task-based buyer situation, a trigger, current alternatives, constraints, an observable outcome and a clear offer boundary. An audience positioning worksheet should distinguish an observation from a guess, allow contradictory evidence and keep source references visible. A completed persona does not independently prove demand or willingness to pay. This workbook requires a basis for every claimed buyer attribute and keeps assumed ages and habits labelled.

Use the files in six steps

  1. Extract the ZIP and read 00_START_HERE.pdf.
  2. Study Worked_Example.pdf and its assumption labels.
  3. Copy Editable_Guide.docx, or choose the A4 or US Letter PDF for handwriting.
  4. Define one buyer task and context; record statuses, sources and dates for buyer claims.
  5. Complete the page 12 offer canvas and draft a focused positioning sentence.
  6. Review unsupported claims, check actual product promises and plan one small test.

Tools, access and editing

A PDF reader opens the guides. LibreOffice Writer provides a local route for editing the DOCX without a paid add-on. Microsoft Word is optional and may require payment. Google Docs is an optional import route requiring your own account and internet access. The ZIP contains actual local files; no account, hosted template link, macro or subscription is included.

The DOCX layout and a disposable edit/save/reopen check were tested locally in LibreOffice. Both print exports contain 16 pages, and all 40 supplied PDF pages were reviewed. Native Google Docs conversion, Microsoft Word desktop, mobile editing and physical printing remain untested. Longer responses can change pagination; inspect your edited copy before exporting. PDFs provide selectable text and writing lines rather than interactive form fields.

Who this workbook fits

Digital sellers narrowing a first offer, planner creators connecting a worksheet to a specific task, course creators describing learner context and teams preparing original client product briefs. Use it when you need to make a broad audience description more specific and connect it to an offer.

The kit supplies planning prompts and a filled illustrative example. You supply real buyer evidence and build your own product. It includes no audience database, automated demographic profiling, competitor scoring, financial advice or completed interviews.

Frequently asked questions

1. Which files are included?
One ZIP contains eight files: four PDFs, one editable DOCX, two TXT notes and a CSV manifest. The workbook is 16 pages in DOCX and both A4 and US Letter PDFs. The quick start and worked example are four pages each. The single-page offer canvas is part of the workbook.

2. Can I edit the files using free tools?
Yes. A PDF reader and LibreOffice Writer provide a local route for reading the guides and editing the DOCX. Google Docs import is optional and needs your account and internet. No paid add-on or macro is required. Test your own imported or edited copy before using it.

3. How do I start with the customer persona template?
Read the freelancer planning example, then save a blank working copy. Write one sentence about a task your intended buyer tries to complete in a specific situation. Label it Assumed if there is no actual source, and identify what you need to learn. Carry the context, trigger and objection into the offer canvas.

4. Does the ZIP contain editable files or access links?
It contains actual DOCX and PDF files with licence, support notes and a manifest. There is no hosted template link. The freelancer budget-sheet example describes a future offer; a budget spreadsheet and actual buyer research are not supplied.

5. Can I use my completed work commercially?
One purchaser or one business may use the workbook internally for original commercial products and client projects. You may deliver your own original finished positioning summaries and project outputs with appropriate rights and permissions. Do not resell or redistribute the reusable source workbook, guides or example. No PLR or source-toolkit resale rights are granted. Read LICENSE.txt.

6. What support and updates are included?
Email waohhartz@gmail.com for help opening supplied files or understanding prompts. Include the filename, app/version and page without unnecessary buyer information. Audience research services, financial advice, legal review, account recovery and bespoke automation are outside scope. Version 1.0 includes support and changelog notes; no response-time or lifetime-update promise is made.

Get the files and define your first buyer situation and offer. Digital files only; no physical item is shipped. Illustrative listing previews may simplify the supplied layouts. The workbook organises your reasoning and does not guarantee demand, income, savings or sales. This independent product is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google or Microsoft.
