Plan a small course pilot before a large build
Scope one learner outcome, outline a short lesson sequence and collect useful feedback before investing in a bigger course. The Mini-Course MVP & Pilot Planner is a mini course planner template for coaches, educators and independent creators preparing a small self-paced pilot.
Use the 14-page workbook and six-tab tracker to make the offer, payment terms, delivery dates, creator effort and volunteer recruitment explicit. This course pilot planner connects your lesson map to real learner observations and a documented continue, revise or stop decision.
What you receive: 11 files in one ZIP
- 14-page pilot workbook: editable DOCX plus matching A4 and US Letter PDFs.
- Two six-tab XLSX trackers: one blank and one completed fictional planning example. Tabs: Pilot Offer, Lesson Map, Effort Budget, Recruitment, Feedback and Decision.
- 4-page worked example: a three-lesson Canva basics pilot plan with five planned volunteer slots, explicit free-payment terms, delivery dates and fictional sample feedback.
- 4-page quick start and 4-page Google Sheets import guide, including expected example values and edit checks.
- Licence, support/version notes and a CSV file manifest.
Formats: 5 PDF, 2 XLSX, 1 DOCX, 2 TXT and 1 CSV. Each spreadsheet tab has 20 prepared record rows. Formula checks flag incomplete offers, invalid dates or budgets, missing consent, duplicate responses and feedback outside the pilot window. Totals show valid lesson minutes, creator hours and recorded actual feedback.
Who this mini course outline template helps
Coaches testing a short self-paced course, educators narrowing a first lesson sequence, independent creators exploring one teachable skill and professionals planning an original client course. The kit supplies editable planning records and prompts. You create and deliver the actual lessons and recruit real volunteers.
The worked example plans three 15-minute lessons, eight creator hours and five volunteer slots. Its five sample feedback rows are invented demonstrations. Accepted volunteers and actual responses both start at zero, and the decision remains Await actual feedback. No course videos, ready-to-teach Canva lessons, editable Canva designs, enrolled learners, testimonials or validated demand are included.
How can I scope a pilot, outline lessons and collect useful feedback before a large build?
Choose one learner and one visible output they should produce. Write a small offer with exact free or paid terms and planned access dates. Map each short lesson to an outcome and an artifact, then budget preparation and review time. Recruit suitable volunteers with actual consent, test access and deliver your own lesson materials. Ask what learners attempted, what blocked them and what should change. Record actual responses separately from samples and review the evidence before choosing the next build.
What should I look for in a mini course planner template?
Look for a clear learner outcome, lesson-to-artifact mapping, explicit payment and delivery terms, an effort budget, consent records and a distinction between sample data and actual feedback. An online course validation worksheet should help you record observations and reasoning without treating invented ratings as proof of demand. This kit supports that planning workflow; it does not automatically validate a business idea or predict course sales.
Start in six steps
- Extract the ZIP and read 00_START_HERE.pdf.
- Explore Completed_Workbook.xlsx and Worked_Example.pdf.
- Save a copy of Blank_Workbook.xlsx; define the learner output, offer, payment terms and delivery dates.
- Map the lessons, estimate creator effort and complete the 14-page workbook prompts.
- Create your actual materials, check participant access and recruit volunteers with their consent.
- Collect actual feedback, inspect learner artifacts and record a human continue, revise or stop decision with reasons.
Tools and access
A PDF reader opens the guides. LibreOffice offers a local route for editing the supplied DOCX and XLSX. Microsoft Word and Excel are optional and may require payment. Google Sheets is an optional import route requiring your own account and internet access. The package contains actual local files and an import guide; it does not supply a hosted Google template link, software account or delivery platform.
The planning kit itself does not require Canva. Its fictional example describes a future Canva basics pilot; running that example would require participants' own Canva accounts and internet access. Use your own or appropriately licensed content and check current feature availability.
Core calculations were checked in LibreOffice. Native Google Sheets conversion and Microsoft Excel desktop have not been tested; run the supplied checks on a converted copy. Formula ranges cover the 20 prepared rows per tab; adding more rows requires formula and summary updates. PDFs contain selectable text and writing lines for reading or handwriting, rather than interactive form fields.
