Whether you are a school leaver going for an apprenticeship, a graduate chasing a first role, a career changer or an experienced manager, there is a layout built for your situation — and a guide that shows you exactly what to write.
Why You'll Love It
- UK conventions built in: A4 pages, a personal statement at the top, two pages (one for school leavers), no photo, and no date of birth, marital status or nationality. Samples use British spelling.
- Five layouts for real situations: chronological, skills-based, graduate, school leaver and senior professional — so you start from a structure that fits your story.
- Built for the way portals read: one column, real Word heading styles, real bullet lists and standard fonts — no text boxes, tables, icons, images or headers/footers.
- Works with free tools: open the files in Word, Word for the web or LibreOffice, or upload the .docx to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs. No paid software needed.
- Personal statement builder: a simple 3-step formula, a fill-in template and 5 worked examples (graduate, school leaver, career changer, experienced professional and returner).
- Helpful if you are applying from India or overseas: the guide explains how to format your location and phone number, and how to add an optional right-to-work line honestly.

Pick Your Layout
- Chronological — the layout most UK employers expect: personal statement, employment history, education and key skills. Two pages.
- Skills-Based — leads with evidence of your skills, with a short career history. Ideal for career changers and people returning to work. Two pages.
- Graduate — education, placements, projects and skills first, with an optional right-to-work line. Two pages.
- School Leaver — qualifications, work experience and volunteering on a single page, ready for apprenticeships and first jobs.
- Senior Professional — career highlights, board-level experience and qualifications for managers, directors and specialists. Two pages.
Two designs: Clean (Calibri, navy headings with a fine rule) suits most industries. Classic (Cambria, centred name in black and grey) suits law, finance, the public sector and other traditional fields.

UK CV Rules in 60 Seconds
- Two pages for most roles; one page for school leavers, apprentices and part-time jobs.
- A4 paper, British spelling and newest experience first.
- A 3–4 line personal statement at the top: who you are, what you offer and the role you want.
- No photo, date of birth, marital status or nationality; give your town or city rather than a full address.
- Month-and-year dates, with a short honest line to explain any gap.
These are common conventions rather than rules, so always follow the instructions in the job advert.
ATS-Friendly, Explained Honestly
"ATS-friendly" here means the structure avoids the things most often blamed for parsing errors: multiple columns, text boxes, tables used for layout, text inside images, icons in place of words, and contact details tucked into headers. Employers use many different systems, so no template can promise a particular result — and none can promise an interview. What this pack gives you is a clean starting point and a simple test to check your own finished file.
Digital Use & Software
- This is a digital download — nothing is shipped.
- Files are .docx (compatible with Word and Google Docs) and PDF. A free Google or Microsoft account is enough.
- Personal-use licence for your own job applications. Please don't share, resell or redistribute the files.
- Editing is easiest on a computer; the Word and Google Docs phone apps can also open the files.
Questions, Answered
Is a CV the same as a resume?
In the UK, "CV" is the usual word for the document you send when applying for jobs. In the USA, "resume" is the everyday word and "CV" usually means a longer academic document. This pack is a UK CV template set in A4.
How long should a UK CV be?
Two pages for most roles. One page is fine for school leavers, apprentices and part-time jobs. Four of the five layouts are two pages and the School Leaver layout is one page.
Should I put a photo on my CV?
No. UK employers do not expect one, and these files are built without a photo.
What is a personal statement, and how is it different from a cover letter?
A personal statement is the short 3–4 line paragraph at the top of your CV. A cover letter is a separate letter written for one specific job. The Access Guide includes a builder and five worked examples.
Does it work in Google Docs?
Yes. Upload the .docx to Google Drive, right-click it and choose Open with Google Docs. Calibri, Cambria and Arial are available in Google Docs. Check the page count after opening.
Is it really ATS-friendly?
The files use one column, real headings, real bullets, standard fonts and no text boxes, tables, images or headers/footers — the elements most often blamed for parsing errors. Employers use different systems, so the pack includes a copy-paste test you can run on your finished CV.
Can I use it if I am applying from India or overseas?
Yes. The guide explains how to write your location and phone number for UK employers and how to add an optional right-to-work line honestly. It is not immigration advice, so check official guidance for your own situation.
Will this get me an interview?
No template can promise that. This pack helps your CV read cleanly and in the right order for both systems and people. The content still needs to fit the job you are applying for.
Is this a physical product?
No — it's a digital download. You receive a ZIP file with editable Word files and PDFs. Nothing is shipped.
Next step: pair your new CV with How to Stop Applying Into the Void — a 5-stage job-search system with 7 printable worksheets.
